Happy New Year!

31 Thursday Dec 2015

Hi and welcome back.

This is a quickie post to wish you and your family a very happy and prosperous 2016.

Let’s forget 2015 and make the new year the best ever!

Here are some of my resolutions for 2016:

Get back to the gym!  Breaking my elbow last April has kept me out of my exercise routine and I’m feeling kinda sloppy.

Increase the workshops!  I love to teach photography, so look for an increase in workshops and presentations on multiple topics.

Back to business.  My year has been so volatile that I’m feeling relieved that 2015 is at an end and the new year brings the promise and hope of success.

Making a move into Beauty Photography.  If you follow this blog, you might have noticed two back-to-back beauty headshot workshops.  This is an area I want to expand into, so let’s get together and shoot it.

Men, my portfolio needs men, so look for them in 2016.

I think that is it.  Have a safe and wonderful New Year celebration tonight and I’ll see you next year!

From my family to yours, all the best,

Bob Harrington

Hi and welcome back.

I am running one more Beauty Headshot workshop this winter before I head to different topics.  The reason: not only is it one of my favorite looks to shoot, I want to build a new portfolio weighted with Beauty Headshots.

We’ll be shooting two different beauty looks: one clean and one with a bit harder, more direct light and creative makeup.

I’ll show you how to get amazing results with just a few speed lights and modifiers.

Here are the details:

Location: Roger Salls Studio, 80 Ferry Blvd, Stratford, CT

Date: January 16, 2016

Time: 12-3

Looks: First look is clean beauty, second look is creative beauty with creative makeup

Cost: $160.00, use the link or the Paypal link on top of the page.

Our first look is clean beauty using:

Phottix Luna Beauty Dish

Our second look is totally creative using:

Rogue Grids

Rogue XL Pro with the strip grid

Our model for the day is Rachael Anders:

Screen Shot 2015-12-29 at 3.21.38 PM

This workshop will run slightly differently.  Rachael will be in hair and makeup from 11-12 so we can shoot from 12-1.  After the first look and hour of shooting, she’ll head back into styling for creative makeup and hair while we set up the second set of lights.  The second look is a very specific lighting, so we’ll all engage in setting it up to shoot and learn how to do it.

Don’t forget, all my workshops are shooting workshops so don’t forget your camera, lenses, batteries, and cards to shoot, shoot, shoot, this amazing look.

Workshop Changes for 2016

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all enjoying family, food, and time off during this warm holiday season!

There will be several changes to the workshop format initiated in 2016.  I’ve been considering changes and have come upon a few that will alter the landscape a bit but make the events, hopefully, better.

Let’s take a look at the changes I will implement slowly in 2016:

Workshops will begin to get a bit longer in time to allow more shoot time for attendees;

Without my own studio space, costs will increase throughout the year as I move around using rental spaces before I get my own again;

I am currently limiting attendance to 10 but am considering raising prices and limiting attendance to between 5-8 to allow for more shoot time per attendee;

I am developing relationships with Anomaly and MSA models to provide professional talent for us, this will also drive cost up but will allow you to get high-end portfolio shots with pro talent;

Instead of shooting 5-8 frames per attendee, you will be allowed to shoot in blocks of time, like 5 or 10 minutes so you get more shoot experience and images;

One-on-ones will be implemented later in the year.  A 1-on-1 allows you to work with the model individually after the initial event has ended.  I’ve been reluctant to initiate this for a few reasons, but this year we are going to try it out;

More men will be photographed this year;

NYC has been a thorn in my side.  Everyone wants a workshop in NYC, but no one wants to pay the fees involved for studio rental, pro models, pro hair and makeup, travel, etc. However, I love NYC and will make and effort to run an event in the Spring;

New Gear: I am selling everything in my Profoto strobe light lineup and moving over to Bowens.  The Bowens S Mount speedring is the most copied in the world.  I’ve found a speed light speeding for $20.00 on Amazon that will mount professional modifiers and an umbrella with a Bowens Mount.  Now, I won’t have to carry around or warehouse a bunch of cobbled-together gear to go in between two lighting systems;

The One Light 101 workshop on January 9, the first of the year, will showcase the Godox Speeding and a Bowens Lumiair 20 x 30 professional softbox;

I think that is it.  I’m implementing a bunch of changes for you so your experience is better and more complete.

I’ll post some new workshops for January later today or tomorrow.

If you have any ideas or ideas for a shoot: fashion, headshot, etc., let me know and I’ll put something together.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

Hi Everyone and Welcome Back!

I can’t wait for 2015 to end.  This has been a year of setbacks, so I can’t wait to get back to shooting and teaching.

Looking for that last minute gift to give the photographer in your life?  Then give them the gift of education and sign on to a workshop with me in January!

I have three booked right now, here are the links:

One Light 101, January 9

Beauty Headshots, January 10

Beauty Headshots, January 16

With the closing of my studio, I’m hitting the road and will be renting studios across CT, NYC, and NJ to get the work out there.  So don’t hesitate, join in the fun!

Also, let me cover Unique Photo from two weekend’s ago.  I was awaiting a finished photo before I posted and just received one from my retoucher.

Marissa from Anomaly Models was just fantastic.  We worked in the beauty style but very creatively with two lights.

Key: SB800, Rogue XL Pro bent forward, no diffusion

Fill: SB800, Rogue 20º Grid with Blue Gel

I can’t decide which I like better, color or b/w.

The event was a huge success and a ton of fun.  So don’t stay home come January, sign on to a one of the classes above and come out and learn how to shoot like this:

_DSC1636_bw_webWell I hope to see you soon, maybe in January.

Don’t be shy, sign on to an event or get one for that lucky photographer in your life!

Till then, Happy Holidays.
