Hi and welcome back.

I have proof positive that Santa is real.

Here it is, a half-eaten chocolate chip cookie and a half glass of milk left over from his stop at my house!

And, he left an amazing gift!

This book was released a few months ago and I’ve been avoiding it like the plague, waiting anxiously for Christmas and the Big Man to arrive.

If you’ve not heard of Greg Heisler, you should.  He is arguably one of the best portrait artists in the world.  His work spans a long career and he still shoots film.  Some of the images in here were shot very, very recently with an 8×10 view camera and film.

Each portrait in the book, and it contains many athletes and stars and musicians, has a back story and technical information on lighting, camera, and how “he got the shot.”

This book is a beautifully written and evocative look at the portrait process devoid of the rapid run-and-gun style of digital photography.  Shooting in large format and with film, I’m amazed at how he slows the process down and becomes the thinking photographer, a luxury many of us don’t really have.

Get this book now and learn everything you can from a true master.

That’s it for now.  Till next time, keep reading and learning and shooting!
